David Castillo is a professional portrait and lifestyle photographer based in NYC. For more than two decades, his aesthetic and evocative approach to photographing has allowed him to come into the presence of many wonderful people. Castillo believes the portrait is a form of a biography, who we are today and who we were in years past. Telling his clients’ stories by capturing the moment in perfect light is his lifelong work.
A third-generation image maker, Castillo has been behind the camera from an early age. After attending the Academy of Art University and the International Maine Photographic Workshops, he first cut his professional teeth as a cameraman on commercials, TV shows, and indie features in the mid-1990s. In the early 2000’s he worked for Canon as a Senior Technical Representative in the US and Japan. He then transitioned to opening Blue Barn Pictures, a creative content agency, and later was Chief Creative Officer of Coffee & Bananaz, a digital agency in NYC. Castillo currently freelances as photojournalist for the NY Post and is the North American Product Liaison for DXO
When not behind the camera, you can find Castillo in the kitchen cooking for his tapas pop-up restaurants. He lives by his motto, "It's all about the moments, the light, and the sauce.”
