Dr. Knight went on active duty in the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon in 1996. He served for four years as a primary care doctor to flyers and their families. As a trained aircraft mishap investigator, he served as a human-factors expert for several aircraft mishaps including a fatal F-16 crash. He practiced travel and occupational medicine and served abroad in support of first Persian Gulf war. He flew routinely with his squadron, and logged hours on other airframes as well. He was honored with the Air Force Achievement Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
