I am an American mixed media artist and poet newly based in San Francisco, CA. I draw inspiration from Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, Raymond Saunders, Gustav Klimt, and a lifelong love of graphic novels and graphic design to paint intimate portraits of his inner dialogue.
My vision incorporates the use of acrylic, spray paint, and oil pastel to capture the immediacy of every day thoughts and emotions on canvas. My art interacts with the viewer through the usage of poetry, phrases, and images allowing the viewer to derive a personal and deeper meaning.
Recently, I‘ve worked in collaboration with opera singer, Kaya Giroux, to create the recital art for her recital, Queen Behavior, at Carnegie Mellon University. My poetry is also in the process of being set to music by composer and singer, Jacob Berger. One of my most recent pieces, Warhol, can currently be seen for sale at Shoppe B x Brenda Friday Design.
I began painting at a young age but began drawing comics at an even younger age. In elementary school my best friend and I created our own comic book label based off of Todd McFarlane’s Image Comics and aptly named it Point Image Comics (original, I know). This continued through middle school and high school. We had a whole roster of heroes and villains, issues and series. To our surprise, people actually bought them.
I attended the Community College of Allegheny County and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where I received an Associates Degree in Graphic Design. I have since shown at the Digging Pitt 1 and 2, The Clay Penn, BE Galleries, Gallery Chiz, and La Porta Blu in Rome.
As a freelance artist, I have experience in graphic design, painting, illustration, drawing, inking, concepts. I’ve been an artist since 1998 and have continued to do art throughout my entire life in various capacities while maintaining part time employment.
