My name is Eunice Figueroa and I am a Mathematical Science major at Barnard College of Columbia University, graduating in 2026. I am a first-generation Latina who hopes to inspire women and girls to pursue a career in technology, a field that we are underrepresented in. Upon my first year in college, I took an introductory data science course, which ignited me to start my data science journey.
I learned to create collaborative data projects using large data sets with various tables and used visuals to demonstrate our findings. I have experience coding in Python (NumPy), and Java, and I plan to learn R in the spring of 2024. I have taken Calculus, Statistics, and Computer Science classes throughout my current time in college.
I hope to gain further experience in the field and strengthen my current knowledge this summer.
During the summer of 2023, I worked at the Lincoln Park Zoo as a Camp Counselor. During my time, I learned to collaborate in groups with my co-counselors, always ensuring that we maintained safety as well as promoting the importance of nature reservation to a new generation. Additionally, I am currently an advanced 7th-grade math tutor, assisting in probability, foundational algebra, and linear equations.
I graduated from North Chicago Community High School at the top of my class with a 3.95 unweighted GPA in 2022. I am now a Mathematical Science major at Barnard College of Columbia University. This major combines mathematics with statistics and computer science and I am on track to receiving my degree in May 2026.
