- I had the privilege of engaging in a hands-on, three-month-long outpatient rotation at Briggs Family Pediatrics Clinic.
- Throughout this rotation, my responsibilities encompassed obtaining comprehensive medical histories, conducting thorough physical examinations, and formulating personalized care plans for each patient encounter.
- After each patient encounter we discussed the major teaching points of the patient's case with Dr. Lazala.
- Dr. Lazala performs growth hormone stimulation tests at the clinic and taught us the bases for interpreting the results.
- During this rotation, I familiarized and increased my efficiency with the utilization of electronic medical records.
- This experience also helped me get more familiar with the US healthcare system.
U.S Clinical Experience at Advocare Fairmount Pediatrics and Adolescent medicine (2023-03 – 2023-05)
- I completed a comprehensive 2-month rotation that involved outpatient experiences at Advocare Fairmount Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine Clinic Center.
- Throughout this rotation, I actively participated in a wide range of responsibilities. I engaged in hands-on patient care, which included conducting medical histories, performing physical examinations, and meticulously documenting patients' notes in the electronic medical record.
- Following each encounter, I engaged in detailed case discussions with each attending, getting invaluable insights and expanding my clinical knowledge.
- During this rotation, I familiarized and increased my efficiency with the utilization of electronic medical records.
- Overall, this rotation provided me with a diverse range of experiences and a deepened understanding of various aspects of patient care, EMR utilization, and the US healthcare system.
Primary care physician at Universidad Católica de Honduras "Nuestra Señora reina de la Paz" (2019-09 – 2019-11)
- First author of the manuscript entitled "Prevalence and associated risk factors in children with ADHD in Francisco Morazan, Honduras", which was presented to a faculty committee for defense.
- This study aimed to establish the incidence and prevalence of ADHD in children between the ages of 6 and 12 years in the communities of Central District, Maraita, and Talanga from Francisco Morazán department, and to establish its relationship with predisposing risk factors.
- Through this experience, I enhanced my ability to collect and analyze information and learned about the research implications of children with ADHD.
Primary Care Physician at Rio Abajo Health Center (2018-11 – 2019-11)
- As part of my graduation requirements, I spent one-year practicing medicine as a primary care physician at a governmental health clinic with full autonomy. I provided medical care to an average of 24 patients daily, gaining valuable experience at the outpatient level.
- Our team actively engaged in various preventive medicine initiatives, including organizing vaccination days in the community and conducting educational medical lectures for children, teachers, and parents at the clinic.
- One of our department's key responsibilities was coordinating monthly HPV and pap smear testing campaigns, contributing to our commitment to preventive care.
- This experience not only allowed me to improve my clinical skills but also honed my organizational and communication abilities due to the multiple coordinating responsibilities that came with the position.
- Furthermore, through this experience I gained a profound understanding of the significance of preventive medicine and primary care in a community setting.
Medical Intern at Instituto Hondureño de Seguridad Social (tertiary hospital) (2017-03 – 2018-02)
- During my 7th year of medical school, I undertook a 1-year internship at three tertiary referral hospitals, which was a quintessential component of my medical training.
- As interns, we followed a rotational system every three months, providing direct patient care in the core clinical areas of Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology.
- Throughout each core rotation, we were assigned to different wards each month, where we oversaw the medical care of 6-7 patients under the supervision of attending physicians and residents.
- Additionally, we had 12-hour night shifts in the ER every four to six days.
- During my pediatrics 3-month rotation I rotated at the main pediatric referral hospital called Maria Hospital, pediatric specialties. I worked in the outpatient and inpatient settings where we saw complex pediatric patient cases. Also, I had 12 hours shifts every four days.
