My name is Grace Goodwin, and I am currently in my second year of Northeastern’s School Psychology MS/CAGS program. As of August 2022, I have successfully finished the master’s degree component of the program and am working toward my Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study.
My practicum placement is at Burr Elementary School located in Newton, Massachusetts. The school serves children in grades K-5 and there are 368 students enrolled at Burr Elementary. I am working under the supervision of Betsy Juarez (MS/PsyD) and have been exposed to many realms of the school psychologist profession.
Alongside my supervisor, I run multiple counseling, social skills groups, and lunch bunches. In addition, I have been given the opportunity to observe and administer a variety of psychological assessments. I have completed and written the report for one full psychoeducational assessment with a fourth-grade student, which included record review, systematic observations, interviews (parent, teacher, and student), BASC-III, WISC-IV, WRAML-III, and Culture-Language Interpretive Matrix (C-LIM).
My experience thus far at Burr Elementary School has given me insight into the multitude of roles a school psychologist can take on within the academic setting. I am eager and excited to continue to learn and grow more as a young professional within the field.
