Hailey Phan

Hi!

I’m Hailey. I went to the University of Florida, where I studied biology and became increasingly interested in medicine through my clinical, research, and service experiences. Since graduating, one of the most meaningful parts of my journey has been working in ophthalmology.

I eventually became a lead technician, which has given me the opportunity not only to work closely with patients, but also to train other technicians and take on more responsibility within the clinic. That experience has really strengthened my desire to become a physician because I’ve realized how much I value building relationships with patients and being someone they can trust during vulnerable moments.

Outside of medicine, I’m pretty active. I enjoy going to the gym, playing pickleball, taking my dog on walks, and I recently started learning how to snowboard. I also really value spending time with my family and friends.

Ophthalmology Technician at South Florida Eye Health (2025-08 – Present)

• Performed visual acuity testing, tonometry, OCT imaging, medication reconciliation, and patient histories.
• Supported management of cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal disease through pre- and post-operative care.
• Promoted to Lead Ophthalmology Technician after 8 months, overseeing daily clinic flow, training and supporting technicians, and coordinating with physicians to maintain efficient, high-quality patient care.

• Documented patient encounters in real time using electronic health records while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
• Observed management of chronic medical conditions in a primary care setting.

• Performed PCR, centrifugation, and molecular analyses to study gene regulation in plant biology.
