About

I was most recently a Data Engineer working for Walmart’s Financial Tech team and my job focused on working on the backend of a data pipeline project and I mainly used Scala as my primary language and Spark as my main data framework. Throughout my time at Walmart, I worked in a SCRUM and AGILE workflow and my main contributed to the team were:

Completing documentation and development-based tasks regarding new functionality or bug fixes for our project.
Creating unit tests in order to increase code coverage and insure proper code functionality.
Running and bugfixing regression tests to validate our project’s code was doing proper data manipulation.

One highlight I’d like to mention is that my unit tests were helped our project meet the standard of 85% code coverage, insuring that the majority of the codebase was properly functioning as designed.

As a data engineer, I am responsible for attending meetings with stakeholders and other development teams also working on the project in order to discuss business needs and urgent problems. Due to this, I learn how to effectively communicate and ask the right questions in order to grasp what needs to be done.

Overall, I believe my professional time at Walmart has allowed me to gain practical experience working with enterprise data engineering systems and has helped me develop stronger communication and teamwork skills, making me a great asset to your team should to decide to move forward with me.

Scala Software Engineer – FIN-TECH Project June 2022 – Jan 2023

Walmart Global Tech Remote - Contract

Completed documentation and development-related tasks for a Data Pipeline project, primarily using Scala and Spark libraries for building ETL processes and data ingestion into Google Cloud Platform as well as SQL for database analyzation and monitoring, solving critical business needs as well as disruptive defects which greatly impacted financial aspects of the company.
Created and designed Unit Tests for existing and new code using ScalaMock API and Intelli-J Debugger in order to increase code coverage, guaranteeing at least 85% of the project’s code was properly functioning.
Modified CI/CD scripts from the Integration Testing Framework in order to modify and run regression tests which were necessary for validating proper data manipulation after meeting ~30 test benchmarks, insuring that the overall project was functioning across over 10 vital Walmart data source systems.
Analyzed Looper and Concord logs to debug test and build failures, resolving ~20 critical bugs which were detrimental to the project’s financial impact.

Software Engineer – Big Data February 2022 – May 2022

Revature

Completed a 10-week Big Data training program learning Scala as a programming language, data processing technologies such as Spark, SQL, Hadoop, as well as AWS, Zeppelin, Tableau and EC2.
Worked in a small team to create a Spark application with full-fledged user/admin system that queried COVID data displayed and saved results to CSV files. Visualized data using Tableau and Zeppelin and hosted the application on services such as AWS and EC2, presenting 10 key impacts of COVID-19 on the population.
Created an application which fetched Steam player data using a web API and utilized Spark Dataframe functionality to store and query data based on user’s desired search conditions.
