- Meeting required steam demands by continuously monitoring a variety of meters, gauges and controls indicating boiler water levels, furnace temperature /steam pressures, temperatures and fuel input, and by making appropriate manual corrections when they are out of range in order to prevent a boiler trip or damage the boiler.
- Monitors six (6) high pressure multi fuel water tube boilers.
- Monitors boilers' continuous blow down systems, and performs manual tests to verify accuracy of automatic systems.
- Changes system from automatic to manual for blowdown mode.
- Monitor and perform tests as required to keep boiler water dissolved solids under control.
- Prepares for and carries out igniting of boilers, fuel switchovers, and shut down and securing of boilers, insuring all valves and controls are properly positioned and modulated.
- Checks fans for proper speed and air flow.
- Controls firing rate to insure boiler temperature and pressure do not exceed safe limits.
- Bypasses and shuts down system sections, securing and monitoring them as needed for inspection, maintenance, repair, or upgrade work, whether routine or emergency, whether by contractor or in-house personnel.
- Implements lock-out/tag-out procedures as appropriate to temporarily bypass and shut down equipment items or system section(s), securing and monitoring them, as needed, and then reintegrates and restarts them as appropriate.

- As a Refrigeration operator assists with guidance and direction in monitoring and controls operation of refrigeration plant chillers, including electric and steam-turbine drive centrifugal chiller, and associated chilled and condenser water pumps.
