Secondary English teacher and Adjunct English professor.
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to teach all levels of the high school English curriculum at Addison Trail High School, eventually focusing on the AP Literature course, 12 Core, and a Dual Credit Composition Course with the College of DuPage. Although I am capable of meeting the instructional needs of any individual student at any particular level, my experience teaching courses with the potential for college credit was enriched by my experience teaching various writing courses (part-time) at Morton College for over 20 years. In this role, I was able to better anticipate the future needs of my high school students, while also gaining extensive experience teaching writing to members of the LEP population and facilitating student growth in college-level academic writing, guiding students to become self-sufficient writers.
Currently, I hold two Master's degrees: one in English Literature with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition, and a Master of Science in Instruction in Secondary English/Language Arts. Both degrees have supplemented my teaching experience with research-based practices regarding the effective instruction of writing, reading, and the communicative arts, each a unique avenue for critical thinking. I am also endorsed in the state of Illinois as a secondary LEP and secondary reading teacher.
