James Pickens

I have 20 years of classroom teaching experience. I have great classroom management skills. I also have experience in conflict resolution and restorative practices with teens. My passion is teaching literary classics and writing techniques. I practice student centered instruction. I am a team leader/player. My goals are to help students and younger teachers set and achieve high standards in education and in their academic communities.

I have been a teacher in the Commerce Public School district for 20 years. I have been a coach for both middle and high schools. I have been a tutor, mentor, class sponsor, and English department lead. I was the academic specialist for all athletes at our high school. I was a consultant for the speech and debate teams.

I have a Master's in Education Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. I have a Bachelor's in English Education from Northeastern State University. I have a Associate of Science degree in English Education from North Eastern Oklahoma A&M College.
