I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Public Health and Community Health Education last year. Currently, I am working as a phlebotomist to accrue direct patient care hours for Physicians Assistant school, while simultaneously applying to PA programs. I am looking to dive and gain more insight into the Public Health aspect of healthcare through a related career.
I have obtained many various professional experiences through many different avenues. Most of them are through my phlebotomy jobs, through school related community work, and global networking.
First, through my phlebotomy jobs, I have been able to display direct patient care and customer service to patients. I have worked in numerous settings including clinics, plasma donor center and hospital. I have also been able to assist every age group from newborns and up, making me competent in different age groups.
Additionally, I worked with the La Crosse Health Department to monitor how placement, price and promotion of alcohol and tobacco affect the youth of La Crosse. I was able to present the findings to different stakeholders in the community including Festival's and Kwik Trip's managers.
Lastly, my professional experiences have extended globally as well. Through my international work in Ghana and India, I have been able to interact and educate women on reproductive rights and health, mental health, and connect them to resources that increase healthcare access.
In summary, I have graduated from a Public Health program that is accredited by Council on Education for Public Health. Being a phlebotomist over the years has shown me what challenges patients face with healthcare. In addition, my global outreach shows how passionate I am about public health prevention, and health care. This is very advantageous as I was able to not only learn in the classroom, but also extend my knowledge throughout the community.
My most relevant education is bachelor's in Public Health and Community Health Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
