Through a person centered approach, taking into environment and context of task. I use a feature match to determine the best technology to support an area of need, by building upon an area of strength. My goal is always to focus on the person who will use the technology and provide them the right tools to accomplish their goals.
Currently working in the public education sector assessing children of all ages for academic assistive technology, necessary for them to access their education. This included speech to text software, text to speech software, note-taking and organizing software, Scan pens, and Augmentative Alternative Communication systems. I supported education teams with training and implementation plans supported by evidence based practices.
My Master's of Science in Assistive Technology and Human Services prepared me to conduct assessments of the whole person, including the environment, and identify areas of strength and areas of need, identify features that a device would need to build upon those strengths in support of those needs, research evidence based practices for implementation (including strategies and training methods), and how to support the individual and caregivers across many environments.
