September 2025 – Present, GEICO
As the Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs for GEICO. I oversee GEICO’s efforts in multiple states including California. In this role I develop insurance and regulatory legislative policies at the state levels. I monitor and evaluate regulatory and legislative proposals, as well as collaborate with internal clients to formulate company-wide public policy positions. In this role I build and maintain relationships with high-profile public officials and industry groups.
July 2016 – January 2022. Education Testing Service (ETS)
Overseeing the government and external relations for ETS in more than 20 states, I engaged with legislators, stakeholders, policymakers, and education leaders to advance the business and philanthropic interests of ETS.
January 2023 – September 2024. Senate Insurance Committee
As the Chief Consultant for the Senate Committee on Insurance, I was responsible for preparing bill analyses, staffing the Committee/ Chair’s legislation, and providing timely and accurate information to the Chair, Senate leadership, and members of the Committee. Additionally. I coordinated and communicated with legislative staff, representatives of state government agencies and departments, advocates, and other interested parties to advance the interests of the Committee, Chair, and Senate Leadership.
January 2022 – January 2023. Senate Office of Research
As the Education Consultant for the Senate Office of Research, I assisted the Rules Committee with their confirmation of gubernatorial appointees, conducted research for senators on policy concerns, authored white papers on areas of potential concern to the Senate for the Pro Tempore’s Office, and monitored the work of numerous boards and commissions.
March 2013 – December 2014. California State Assembly Committee on Education
Serving the California State Assembly, I analyzed, and drafted legislation related to curriculum, instruction, special education, English learners, migrant education, career technical education, and instructional materials.
January 2012 – February 2013. California State Board of Education
I served the State Board as both the Assistant Chief Counsel and as a policy consultant. In both capacities, I provided counsel and advice on a variety of issues including charter schools, administrative procedures, curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments.
July 2006 – December 2007. California Department of Education (CDE)
Working as the History-Social Science consultant for the CDE, I established a network of resources and specialists in order to build and sustain a working partnership between curriculum experts, teachers, and the CDE.
January 2016 – June 2016. California Federation of Teachers
Representing more than 100,000 early education through university certificated and classified employees, I advocated on issues related to higher education, retirement, and the state budget.
January 2008 – December 2011. California Department of Education
As Deputy General Counsel, I represented and advised the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the State Board, and the CDE. My duties included drafting legal advisories on issues relating to NCLB, charter schools, and curriculum and drafting regulations to implement federal and state legislation.
