John Xu

I am a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellow at Loyola University Medical Center. My clinical experience includes caring for critically ill newborns in a Level III NICU and providing independent neonatal care while moonlighting at community NICUs.

I enjoy teaching medical students, residents, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. I am also involved in quality improvement and clinical research, with work presented at national meetings.

As I finish fellowship, I plan to pursue a clinically focused career in neonatology while staying involved in education and mentorship.

Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellow at Loyola University Medical Center (2025-02 – Present)

Provide comprehensive care for critically ill neonates in a regional Level III NICU.

• Manage premature and term infants requiring advanced respiratory support, including high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV).
• Participate in neonatal transport, fetal consultation, and multidisciplinary care of complex neonatal conditions.
• Supervise pediatric residents while providing bedside teaching and procedural education.

Neonatal Hospitalist at Advocate Christ Medical Center – Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (2025 – Present)

• Provide independent overnight physician coverage in a Level III NICU.
• Attend high-risk deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitation and stabilization.
• Manage critically ill neonates requiring advanced respiratory support and other intensive care therapies.
• Perform neonatal procedures including endotracheal intubation, umbilical venous and arterial catheterization, and lumbar puncture.

Neonatal Hospitalist at MacNeal Hospital – Level II Special Care Nursery & Newborn Nursery (2025 – Present)

• Provide independent attending physician coverage for the newborn nursery and Level II Special Care Nursery.
• Independently attend deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitation.
• Supervise pediatric residents while directing inpatient newborn care.
• Coordinate transfer of newborns requiring a higher level of neonatal care.
