As a Correctional Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, it was my job to diagnose and treat adult male and female inmates with mental illness in a prison. I was able to make a difference not only to the patient who was being treated for a mental illness, who may now be able to apply for a job within the prison. but medication and therapy can also be beneficial to the prison occupants and staff making a safer environment by managing crisis situations, reducing disciplinary issues and help the inmate make a smoother re-entry into the community for those who had a release date.
