Jonah Silk

I'm an engineering science student at Goucher College with a passion for both creative and technical problem-solving. I’m fluent in Spanish and skilled in video editing software like Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro, as well as tools like Excel, Google Sheets, and CAD programs. I have experience programming in Python, Scratch, and C++, and enjoy working with my hands through charcoal modeling, sculpture, glassblowing, and metalwork.

I’ve applied these skills to projects like creating an algorithm to analyze car accident data for a scientific computation course and developing a fully customized online video game. Whether I'm building simulations in Python or helping kids understand physics at science camp, I love blending creativity with STEM.

I have a range of experience supporting youth programs, working in hands-on environments, and engaging in creative and technical projects. I've worked as a counselor-in-training and teen leader at several camps, where I helped guide kids, manage equipment, and assist with activities like pottery and science projects. I also spent a summer gardening and cooking with Berkeley Youth Alternatives, and took part in the HMI Gap program, traveling across multiple states for outdoor education and leadership training.

As a student in Goucher College's Engineering Science program, I appreciate its interdisciplinary approach that combines rigorous training in physics, mathematics, chemistry, and programming with a liberal arts perspective. The curriculum emphasizes practical problem-solving and quantitative analysis, preparing me for careers in engineering, science, or technology, as well as for graduate studies. What I find particularly enriching is the program's focus on understanding the societal impacts of science and technology, encouraging collaboration across diverse cultural perspectives to develop innovative solutions.
