General Manager/Property Manager at Star Bar/Astor Studios (2023-04 – 2025-03)
After the prior family sold their restaurants, I was brought on to manage the businesses next door, Star Bar and Astor Studios (28 apartments above the bar). I directed team development, SOPs, vendor collaborations, and even programming, all of which manifested in a record-breaking year in revenue and profit margin. I maintained a constant focus on fostering a culture of respect and safety, implementing de-escalation tactics with intoxicated and/or aggressive patrons, and empowering employees to make executive decisions within their comfort level.
In the property management position, I acted more as a tenant advocate, consistently pushing back on the corporation's quick actions against tenants and providing support and resources through various housing assistance programs to help tenants avoid eviction and stay housed.
Multi-Unit General Manager at Coastal Cantina/Tony's Pizza (2021-12 – 2023-05)
I oversaw the operations of two family-owned restaurants, helping them revamp their operations to improve performance. I implemented menu changes (design and food selections) to better accommodate the customers we served. I held multiple fundraisers to engage the local community, encouraging families to give back and invest in our neighborhood.
I held our own 'family holidays' that were closed to the public and opened the space with activities and food to create a positive experience for the staff and show appreciation for all they do, which in turn led to better guest experience and morale daily.
Owner/Operator at Cocina Calavera (2020-03 – 2021-09)
Founded and operated a full-service Mexican restaurant, with a focus on community and culture. I held monthly events, including paint-and-sip sessions, live music, and fundraising for local causes. I also promoted local artists with a dedicated wall that showcased their work quarterly, which led me to become involved in the Hillcrest Art Walk and to receive publicity on various local news stations.
During the pandemic, I was also chosen as a small business owner to meet with our Congresswoman, Sarah Jacobs, to share my perspective on the impacts of COVID-19, and I sent a letter to the White House with her.
Managing Partner at Advanced Pools & Spas, Inc. (2010-08 – 2018-09)
I oversaw financial operations for a 15-person pool construction family business, including payroll, billing, and compliance. I was licensed to oversee commercial aquatic facilities and ensure guest safety as a third-party inspector. I built and maintained professional relationships in this area, expanding our portfolio and company image throughout Southern California.
When employees needed help, I provided on-the-job training and support to ensure they felt confident and had the tools they needed for success.
Social Work & Alcohol and Other Drug Studies (2024)
