Kandy Klutz

I have been a nurse for about 21 years, Twenty of those have been as an RN. I love nursing and view it more as a calling than a "job". My foundation is oncology, palliative, and hospice nursing. I also have extensive Case Management experience.

My step-dad, who raised me, is a Forensic Psychologist. I often helped him organize notes and charts when I came home from college in some weekends. So when the opportunity presented itself to work as a corrections nurse, I was drawn to it immediately.

I view corrections/forensic nursing as a vital role in the nursing spectrum. The inmate population is one of the most underserved demographic in society. My belief is that ALL people deserve access to compassionate, competent, evidence-based nursing care.

And I approach corrections nursing with this belief which allows me to earn both the trust and respect of the patients.

Most recently I've been a nursing supervisor for an acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital. I have worked with both juveniles and adults in the correctional setting for the last few years. I have been a clinical director and floor nurse and enduring in between.

I have previously obtained my certifications in Hospice and Palliative Care and Case Management. I hope to obtain my certification as a Corrections Nurse. Ultimately, my goal is to return to school to obtain my Masters of Science in Forensic Nursing. The field of correctional and forensic nursing is essential to ensuring that the inmate population remains stable and educated on chronic conditions. This will enable them to continue their health literacy as they re-intergrate into society.
