AgTech Student Intern at Agriculture Center (2018-06 – 2019-07)
The AgTech Summer Youth Program is a youth employment and workforce develop program funded by Tennessee State University and Agricenter International. Twenty students were selected out of over 3,000 applications from high school sophomores. I was fortunate to be 1 of the 20 sophomore students.
As a paid participant, we were educated on four key components: career readiness, agriculture, financial readiness, and STEM activities including drone building and operation. This remarkable program not only enhanced my skills in the above, it also improved my communication skills and taught me how to work efficiently in a workspace environment. After successfully completing my sophomore 1.0 internship, I was promoted to the 2.0 internship for high school juniors.
In this program we developed our management skills by assisting the professors in training the newcomers in the 1.0 internship program. The main focus was to teach other students how to program, navigate and fly drones. As a paid 2.0 participant we dug deeper into the four career readiness components and learn how to manage and keep financial books.
