Work with a team of mental health professionals to provide a variety of inpatient mental health interventions to individuals who have been admitted as inpatients. These services include interventions such as behavior plans, psychiatric medication, psychotherapy (individual, group, and family), and psychological testing (forensic, personality, cognitive, and neuropsychological). Assist the Director of Neuropsychological Services, a board-certified neuropsychologist in providing comprehensive neuropsychological testing for patients throughout the hospital and co-leading a weekly neuropsychology supervision group for externs, interns, and residents.
Developed the initial Cognitive Remediation program, both computer and a paper and pencil based, for the hospital as well as cognitive remediation groups for neurocognitively impaired patients. Used Cog-Pak and Neuropsychonline as the basis for the computer-based Cognitive Remediation groups and the University of Alabama Home Stimulation Program as the basis for the pencil and paper based Cognitive Remediation groups. A Department of Justice Audit in 2014 determined the program to be the best in the country.
Member of the Trauma Informed Care Training Team for hospital staff. Have been the unit psychologist on both pre-trial units where focused on inpatient evaluation and restoration of competence to stand trial and post-trial units where focused on the assessment and treatment of violence risk, as well as facilitating patient discharge and community reintegration. Presently, work on a geropsychiatric unit, where focus on issues such as quality of life and living, aging and illness, death and dying; age-related cognitive decline and other neurocognitive disorders; management of emotional and behavior challenges caused by the interaction of physical illness/decline, psychosis, personality disorder, neurocognitive disorder/dementia, and social isolation.
