I am currently a Marketing Communications student attending the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. In addition, I am a highly motivated and diligent worker. I have worked the past 5 summers at the local community swimming pool. I progressed from Lifeguard to Pool Manager. This work experience has provided ample opportunity to hone my communications, management, prioritization, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
As a Marketing and Resource Development Intern at TurningPoint, a nonprofit organization in River Falls, Wisconsin, I was responsible for managing the organization's social media presence, scheduling posts to promote awareness and events, and engaging with donors through thank-yous and invitations. I also gained hands-on experience in event planning, from managing details to setup and teardown, and entered data entries and acknowledgments into Excel to optimize resources. My internship allowed me to develop skills in communication, organization, and marketing that I can apply to my future career.
In addition to my internship experience, I also have several years of experience as a General Manager and Seasonal Lifeguard at West Carver Community Pool in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. In this role, I supervised a team of 11 employees, managed daily maintenance tasks, and created weekly schedules to ensure proper coverage and equitable distribution of hours. I also instructed young children in swimming strokes and water safety lessons, communicated with parents about their children's progress and needs, and monitored pool attendees to establish a safe environment.
Prior to this, I worked as a Customer Service and Woodworking Assistant at Antique Woodworks, a family business in Gaylord, Minnesota, where I worked directly with customers to understand their needs and crafted custom furniture pieces to meet their wants and needs. Through all of these experiences, I have honed my customer service, communication, leadership, and woodworking skills, making me a well-rounded candidate for future opportunities in marketing and resource development.
Throughout my academic journey, I have gained hands-on experience in research, data gathering, and analysis. In addition, my proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook, makes me confident in my ability to complete tasks promptly and effectively. The curriculum for Marketing Communications covers a range of topics, including advertising, public relations, brand management, consumer behavior, market research, digital marketing, social media marketing, and content creation.
I have learned how to create effective marketing messages, develop strategies to reach target audiences and analyze the results of marketing campaigns.
