I am currently in General Counseling, and my primary role is to advise students in various aspects of their lives (academic, vocational, and personal). In counseling sessions, I listen, ask questions, and provide advice and referrals within the college, district, and community. In collaboration with students, I select majors for students, choose classes for educational planning and make referrals for academic and personality assessments (i.e., EUREKA, ONE online, MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator), Strong, to name a few).
My responsibilities include planning, preparing, and conducting students’ academic counseling sessions. I prepare educational planning using the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), which consists of three options for students to follow for their academic goals. I also familiarize students with websites to explore programs and universities available to them to make sound decisions in selecting a major and university.
I read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. I Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions; maintain confidentiality.
I have two years of experience working with a diverse student population that ranges from veterans and dependents to African American, LatinX, LGBTQ+, undocumented, and other underrepresented students. I counsel students to help them achieve their academic and personal goals. I help students with educational plans transfer to four-year institutions and ensure they take advantage of institutions' different programs, such as scholarships, mentoring, etc.
I recently obtained my Master's degree in college counseling and student development. I also have a bachelors degree in Psychology.
