I am a current PhD candidate at the Medical University of South Carolina studying scar formation, cellular death, and cell-cell interactions in a model of myocardial infarction to preserve pre-existing cardiomyocytes. My previous work was on gene therapy techniques in the treatment of glaucoma and presbyopia. I have a wide range of technical skills for in vivo and in vitro research.
I am passionate about scientific research and discovering new treatments to improve patient outcomes. I am an excellent collaborator and truly believe in initiatives to increase diversity within science.

Thorough analysis of cell death and fibrotic scar formation in a regenerative and non-regenerative mouse model of myocardial infarction (MI). My work focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms that govern regeneration following loss of cardiomyocytes as well as pathways that dictate extracellular matrix deposition after injury. My detailed analysis attempts to fill an important knowledge gap in the pathological progression following MI in a regenerative mouse model.
As well, I have investigated the role of ferroptosis after myocardial infarction and cell-cell communication between cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts regarding ferroptotic cell death. My work was primarily in mouse models of MI and in vitro models using human cell lines including human induced pluripotent stem cells.
University of Wisconsin Madison School of Medicine and Public Health - 2014-2018
I managed multiple projects in glaucoma and presbyopia using a primate model. In this role, I worked in surgical technique and developed innovative ways for live surgical micro-imaging and gene therapy delivery into the vasculature of the eye. I assisted in grant writing to secure over $500,000 in funding to purchase a surgical microscope for our gene delivery techniques.
As well, I collaborated with a large CRO and international academic institutions for drug testing and experimental procedures in emerging disease such as glaucoma and presbyopia.
