My name is Megan Reyes and I have been an inpatient and outpatient certified coding specialist for the past 8 years. I have worked on projects that included everything from pediatrics to geriatrics, procedures to annual wellness visits, and more! I am passionate about continuously furthering my education and career by striving to maintain the highest level of accuracy and proficiency.
I have mastered mostly all of the office applications and software needed to communicate with my teammates and leadership. Along with all the means of communication, I pride myself in learning how to effectively research and reference all the materials available to me that allows me to successfully complete my tasks. Because, as humans, we physically can't memorize each code and guideline, it is very important to be able to know how to find the information in the most efficient amount of time.
Whether that is the ICD-10 guidelines or company made guidelines for each project, I take advantage of every resource that is available.
I started coding in 2017. I worked for a company called All Types HIMs as a coder working on a variety of inpatient and outpatient projects. Over time, I felt as though I was not furthering my career and was stagnant in my position.
It was then that I found MD connections and worked as an all-capture coder in November of 2021 until July 2024. That job taught me a lot when it comes to paying more attention to details since all all-capture projects can be tedious and loaded with codes that wouldn't commonly be captured with other styles of coding. After being with MD connections for 3 years, I was offered a position at Corrohealth, formerly Virtix health.
I have been there for almost 2 years, and I am looking for something more. I have made it a goal to eventually grow to a strictly inpatient coder and auditor. Although I love what I do, I want to progress my career to something more challenging.
In 2007, I graduated from Gahr High School obtaining my high school diploma. After failing to find my career in traditional 4 year university, I turned to PIMA medical institute in 2012 where I earned my Occupational Associate's degree in animal science specializing as a Veterinary Technician. Following that, I started my family which ultimately moved my life in a different direction.
I eventually found medical coding which allowed me to balance a healthy work and home life. I earned my Certified Coding Specialist certification in 2017 after attending AHIMA certified classes through CodeMasters inc. and have been working as a certified coding specialist (CCS) ever since.
