Junior Electrical Engineering Student at Villanova. Expected Graduation: May 2025.
During the last two summers, I have worked at internships that are related to my major. In the summer of 2023, I interned at the Carderock facility for the US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). NAVSEA Carderock specializes in designing and testing ships and submarines for the US Navy.
I was responsible for evaluating procedures for testing specialized tracking devices used in Navy submarine acoustic trials. To increase efficiency, I developed a testing tool to determine if a tracking device has degraded. The tool has the capability to expedite a key step in submarine acoustic trials while giving technicians greater confidence in testing results.
In 2022, I completed a fellowship with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). During my time at NIST, I developed computer software for a specialized instrument called an interferometer, which measures objects to nanometer precision by recording interactions of light reflecting off of an object. When I started my summer at NIST, the team of scientists would follow a lengthy procedure to gather data from the interference pattern created by the interferometer.
I was tasked with incorporating computer vision techniques to aid in this process. At the end of the summer, my Python code was directly implemented into NIST’s software, making the analysis quicker and more precise.
I am currently a Junior at Villanova University, pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering, and a minor in Computer Science. My relevant engineering courses include Power Systems, Signal Processing, and Analog Electronics II. This spring, I will complete courses in Electromagnetics and Electrical Communications, as well as a design seminar.
