My name is Monique Miller and I am currently a second-year Masters of Public Health student in the Industrial Hygiene program at UC Berkeley. As a NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) trainee, I have been incredibly fortunate to benefit from a first-class education and mentorship from industrial hygiene professionals who have helped shape the field.
Much of my experience as a Junior Industrial Hygiene Consultant has been focused on ventilation and indoor air quality as it relates to COVID-19 mitigation and have had the opportunity to work with various stakeholders, such as school districts, counties and private industry. I also have experience with work related to laboratory safety, chemical hygiene plans, exposure investigation, and quantitative fit-testing. In this role, I have led data collection and analysis, as well as technical report writing for clients and facilitated a wildfire and indoor air quality training webinar.
My MPH thesis is a cost-benefit analysis of ventilation controls in a K-8 with the goal of providing schools with a tool to guide and inform their decision-making process regarding ventilation.
As a young IH professional, I am excited to continue building on these experiences and apply what I have learned so far in new environments. I would also like to learn from other IH and Environmental Safety and Health professional for my professional development and increase my capacity to contribute to an organization’s mission.
