To whom it may concern:

I’m thrilled to apply for the Media Intern position at BAE Systems. I am a senior journalism major with an international affairs minor at Howard University. While on the print journalism track, I have used the resources available to me to my advantage and explored various storytelling approaches.

I’ve become incredibly fond of videography, audio storytelling, and A/V editing while remaining true to my passion for writing. While I’ve been honing my craft through my studies and extracurriculars, I’m eager to apply my skills to real-life situations and learn more than I already have.

While at the nation’s first Black woman-owned podcasting network, ALIVE Podcast Network, I witnessed the hard work it takes to build and maintain a business in the media space. I resolved hosts’ issues while keeping the podcast distribution and management center up-to-date. I also pitched and created different ways to advertise the network’s various shows.

Here, I practiced getting a business’s mission across to the public by picking excerpts from the network’s shows to share on social media. This experience aligned with my lifelong goal of amplifying the voices society tends to silence.

I’ve actively applied my multimedia skills during my time as a member of Howard University’s Spotlight Network. In this organization, I can explore different aspects of journalism and storytelling aside from print. I’ve mostly pitched and edited social media content for the Creative Team and have been a videographer on many film crews at sports games and school events.

I’ve been elected as the organization's Membership Coordinator for the 2023-2024 school year, a role that will allow me to mentor young, aspiring journalists by creating lesson plans to train them in all areas of journalism, film, and television. Many of the club’s members hope to be in the entertainment industry. Still, I find it valuable to help them solidify their foundation in hard news to help them navigate more creative fields.

As a staff writer at 101 Magazine, I’ve sharpened my reporting and interviewing skills through the articles I bylined. The magazine’s editor-in-chief allows the team to experiment with various writing styles- an opportunity that has helped me become a better journalist. The publication covers a wide array of topics such as lifestyle and culture, sports, and breaking news. This position has allowed me to think more creatively, which has improved my writing.

I’m interested in working alongside BAE Systems’ Media Group to help further convey the company’s mission of supplying protection and technology. It’s crucial to inform the public, customers, and employees of the company’s projects and advancements so they better understand how these projects are keeping them safe. I’m excited to do this across several platforms and assist in making this information accessible and digestible.
