Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in opportunities in recovery support services, including roles such as Peer Support Specialist (PSS) or Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM). I am passionate about supporting individuals who are working through addiction and life challenges because I understand firsthand how difficult the recovery process can be.
My own journey through addiction and recovery has given me a deep sense of purpose and a strong desire to help others who are walking a similar path. I have been clean for 6 years this March. Through my experiences, I have developed empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to helping people rebuild their lives.
I recently became certified as a Certified Recovery Mentor through MHACBO as well as a Peer Support Specialist through OHA and am eager to begin my career supporting individuals in their recovery.
During my time in the Oregon Department of Corrections(Nov. 2019-July 2024), I made a conscious decision to focus on personal growth, accountability, and preparing myself for a better future. I participated in the JLAD service dog training program, where I trained multiple dogs that went on to become service animals assisting individuals with disabilities, including veterans with PTSD. This experience helped me develop discipline, responsibility, and the ability to work patiently and consistently toward meaningful outcomes.
Since my release, I have continued to build on that commitment by volunteering in my community and remaining dedicated to my recovery. My goal is to use my lived experience to support and encourage others who are working toward sobriety and stability. I believe that people in recovery benefit greatly from support from someone who understands their challenges and can walk alongside them with compassion and accountability.
I am also motivated to continue pursuing further education and certifications in mental health and addiction counseling so that I can grow in this field and better support individuals in recovery.
