Warmth seems to be one quality I was born with and the reason why people always receive me well. Over eight years, I have come to know and love roughly eight hundred eighth graders. I believe I have been able to reach them and be impactful, because I am so effective at relating to their lives.
Since as early as age sixteen, I have been building relationships with people through work. The amount of poverty and disappointment in the community I came from has influenced me to become humble, authentic, and empathetic. My own endeavors have not been always been without fail and disappointment; however the decisions I have made are part of the reason I am an effective teacher.
As a teen age mother, I knew that education was imperative in order to beat the odds I was up against. I was fortunate to have a strong support system, so I was able to finish high school and graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology all while working full time. Even with a degree, these circumstances brought immense amount of insight into worlds that I had never known.
The tenacity, ingenuity, persistence, and courage it took to continue moving forward in what felt like impossible conditions allows me to be present and see others in a way most people don't take the time to. I am confident that the skills I have developed as a teacher and person are transcendent into roles that require an ability to build just about anything.
I began teaching eighth grade in 2015. Since then, I have been a classroom teacher in two schools. From 2015-2020, I taught at a Title One School in Marlboro County (South Carolina). I moved to Greenville in 2020, where I have been teaching for the last three.
Prior to teaching, I worked as a pharmacy technician for thirteen years. The keeper of the pharmacy, I performed duties such as transcribing prescriptions, checking for contraindications, filling prescriptions, maintaining inventory, continuing education on drug uses and new medications, effective teamwork, and communicating with customers.
B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Francis Marion University (2008).
