A few years ago I sat in a congressional staffer's office with a stack of malaria funding data and about ten minutes to make the case for why it mattered. That kind of moment, translating something technical into something a busy decision maker can actually use, is where I have spent most of my career, and it is exactly what draws me to this role. I currently serve as Advocate Champion for United to Beat Malaria, where I represent a coalition of more than one hundred organizations before members of Congress and their staff.
My job is part relationship building, part translation. I take epidemiological and program data and turn it into briefing materials and conversations that hold up under scrutiny, while keeping a wide range of partners, some of whom disagree with each other more than they agree, pointed in the same direction. That work has taught me how to find common ground without pretending differences do not exist, and how to move a policy conversation forward even when the room is not unanimous.
What I would bring to this position is a rare combination: comfort with epidemiological and surveillance data, real experience sitting across from legislators and their staff, and years of practice keeping large, varied groups of stakeholders aligned under deadline pressure. I am organized, direct, and genuinely curious about people who see policy questions differently than I do, which I have found is the only way coalitions actually hold together.
