Paul Asare

Board-certified Molecular Biologist (MB(ASCP)) and doctoral-level molecular biologist with over a decade of research and work experience spanning infectious disease, public health, gut microbiome science and pathogen genomics. Currently an APHL–CDC Infectious Disease Fellow at the Connecticut State Public Health Laboratory, performing whole-genome sequencing of hemorrhagic fever viruses and other infectious agents on Illumina and PacBio platforms (VSP-2 project) within a CLIA/CAP-regulated public health laboratory. Author of 15 peer-reviewed publications, principal/co-investigator on over $2.4M in competitively awarded research funding, and experienced mentor of technicians, graduate and undergraduate researchers.

APHL–CDC Infectious Disease Fellow at Connecticut State Public Health Laboratory (2025-01 – Present)

• Established and validated a droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay for detection and quantification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and M. tuberculosis complex from clinical specimens.
• Performed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of hemorrhagic fever viruses on Illumina as part of the VSP-2 project, supporting outbreak preparedness and public health biosurveillance.
• Conducted WGS-based detection of human pathogenic viruses in wastewater for environmental/public health surveillance.
• Conducted WGS of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) from clinical samples, including bacterial plating and culture, nucleic acid extraction, and library preparation within a CLIA/CAP-regulated public health laboratory.
• Supported the automation of next-generation sequencing library preparation on the Tecan Fluent 780 liquid handling platform.
• Received structured training and mentorship in infectious disease diagnostics and CLIA high-complexity laboratory operations, including quality assurance practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Participated in weekly interdisciplinary meetings on state public health concerns and interventions, gaining direct exposure to public health decision-making and epidemiological priorities.

• Led development of GENESIS AI, a proprietary diagnostic and biomarker-discovery model for glycan-linked diseases.
• Secured $1.5M in Innosuisse Flagship-AI grant funding and facilitated a Microsoft Azure partnership.
• Spearheaded commercialization of REVELAbiome, a microbiome-based animal health diagnostic test.
• Developed and edited laboratory manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Clinical Research Associate at Gnubiotics Sciences (2021-01 – 2023-12)

• Authored research manuscripts, abstracts, and poster presentations; secured 1.5M CHF in grant funding.
• Supported FDA GRAS documentation submission for AMOBiome (animal milk oligosaccharide biosimilar).
• Collaborated with IP attorneys on patent strategy; standardized SOPs for in vitro and clinical laboratory activities.

• Built a MALDI-TOF MS library for rapid identification of butyrate-producing bacteria in the human microbiota.
