I have been a caregiver for seniors all my adult life. Caring for others is my passion and I love doing so. At times, when my clients had cats or dogs in their home, I helped care for these little loved ones as well.
I have also had dogs and cats most of my life. Currently one cat and one senior (small) dog live with me. They get along well together.
I am very attentive to the care of the animals for whom I’m trusted to give care. One cat I was sitting for was okay health wise, but the poo in the litter box appeared to have some red tinge to it. The cat appeared fine while in the litter box, but I took a picture of the poo for the client as well as took a small sample of the poo, put it in a baggie with a time and date - in case the client wanted the vet to see it to get it tested.
I notified the client, who later told me her cat was fine and it was the result of some certain medication. I was relieved of course. I just wanted to provide reassurance that I take sitting as an important matter and pay attention to all details- as well as providing loving care.
Most of my adult life I have provided care for seniors in their homes. I help them to meet and achieve the activities of daily living. I also help caring for any pets these clients may have. Most recently, I provided care for a cat in my home whose human mom was changing apartments (relocating). I also “babysit” for peoples’ cats and/or dogs while they are out doing their activities.
The caregiving agencies for whom I work (and get sent to people’s homes) provide us with continuing education.
This helps us immensely stay relevant and current.
I am a caregiver for seniors, currently at Jewish Family Services (Seniors at Home) in San Francisco. I have been with them about two years. I have been with other caregiving prior to this one. I have also worked privately.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree at San Jose State University in Health Sciences as well as my Associate Degree in Biological Sciences at West Valley College. Although these were many years ago, I continued to take “refresher“ courses through the agencies for whom I worked.
