I am currently an Animal Science and Wildlife Biology student with a strong passion for marine life, conservation, and animal welfare. I’ve built hands on experience through several volunteer roles that have strengthened both my knowledge and commitment to protecting wildlife.
In 2024 when I lived in Hawaii, I worked with Hawaii Marine Mammal Response (HMMAR), where I supported efforts to monitor and protect marine mammals. Through this experience, I learned proper wildlife safety, observation techniques, and conservation practices, while also helping raise public awareness about marine animal protection.
I also volunteered at the Long Beach Aquarium throughout high school, where I educated visitors about marine ecosystems and the impacts of climate change on animals. This role helped me develop strong communication skills and a deeper understanding of conservation education.
From 2015 to 2023, I was part of the Long Beach Cleanup Crew, where I regularly participated in beach cleanups to help reduce pollution and protect marine habitats. This long term involvement strengthened my commitment to environmental stewardship and wildlife protection.
Overall, I’m passionate about working with animals and contributing to conservation efforts in both hands on and educational ways, and I’m excited to continue growing in this field.
2023 – Present In my role as a server, I developed strong communication, teamwork, and multitasking skills in a fast paced environment. I regularly manage multiple responsibilities at once while staying attentive to detail and ensuring each guest feels cared for and understood. This experience strengthened my ability to stay calm under pressure, problem solve quickly, and adapt to changing situations in real time.
Working closely with diverse customers also helped me build patience, empathy, and strong observational skills, being able to notice needs before they are directly expressed. These skills translate well into animal care environments, where attention to behavior, responsiveness, and calm handling are essential.
Overall, my experience in hospitality has taught me how to remain responsible, focused, and compassionate while working in a high demand setting, which I believe directly supports my goals in animal science and wildlife care.
