Year-long internship in which I gained hands-on experience in all 19 spheres of medicine and surgery. Became particularly aware of the realities of the immediate difficulties ubiquitously faced in the emergency room and the necessity of balancing related but distinct modes of thought into a unified whole—i.e., a timely but not hasty response to the emergent needs of patients blended with a compassionate appreciation of their emotional circumstances, the latter phenomenon particularly important in the approach to patients presenting with psychiatric symptoms.

Clinical assistant or medical support worker is a relatively new role introduced by the UK government during the pandemic which is designed to augment the clinical service by doing a basic level clinical work under supervision by a consultant.
