My name is Rodney L Williams, I am the Director of Visitor Services and Museum Operations for America's Black Holocaust Museum in Milwaukee, WI. I hold a Bachelor of Science in History from Lander University in Greenwood, SC and a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. I have worked in the nonprofit field for approximately fifteen years within the YMCA, parks and recreation, and museums.
Through the masters program I have gained the skills needed to lead, preserve, and protect the mission of any museum I am employed by. My passion for museums is what drives me to continue learning and gaining addition knowledge through trainings and workshops.
Professionally I have served my communities at the Greenwood Family YMCA starting out as a part-time employee and eventually as a Program Director where I oversaw sports, teens, and community outreach for approximately ten years. I continued my community outreach experience as a certified law enforcement officer for approximately eight years. For the last four years I have served the Milwaukee area and the state of Wisconsin first as the visitor services and membership coordinator and currently as the Director of Visitor Services and Museum Operations.
Educationally I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History with a minor in African America Studies from Lander University in 2005. I also obtained a diploma degree in entrepreneurship from the Milwaukee Area Technical College in 2001. Finally, after being employed by America's Black Holocaust Museum I stated a graduate program and received my Master of Arts in Museum Studies from the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a 4.0 GPA in 2024.
I will continue looking for additional educational opportunities and trainings that will continue to further my career in the world of museums.
