Safiya Hylton

Hi there! My name is Safiya Hylton and I have a passion for storytelling whether that's through social media posts, writing or verbally. I’m a passionate and purpose-driven communicator with a Master’s degree in Public Relations and a heart for people.

With experience in both government and higher education, I bring a strong foundation in engagement, relationship-building, and strategic communication. I’m especially drawn to work that fosters community, uplifts underserved voices, and aligns with values of service and integrity.

As the oldest of four siblings, I naturally step into leadership roles with empathy, responsibility, and care. I thrive in environments where I can support others, create meaningful experiences, and contribute to a larger mission. My background includes internships with the NYC Department of City Planning and work in residence life, both of which have deepened my skills in advocacy, problem-solving, and storytelling.

Outside of work, I’m a creative spirit exploring entrepreneurship through Christian art and jewelry design. I believe in the power of faith, art, and authenticity to connect people and inspire change!

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public & Organizational Relations at Montclair State University, with a strong foundation in interpersonal communication, crisis response, and stakeholder outreach.

Demonstrated success in managing teams, overseeing budgets, and coordinating public-facing initiatives in both academic and government settings. Proven ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences, craft compelling content, and support mission-driven projects—from supervising residence life staff to producing press releases for citywide planning efforts. Known for being adaptable, organized, and values-driven, with a passion for storytelling, equity, and empowering communities.

Earned a Master of Arts in Public & Organizational Relations from Montclair State University in May 2025. This graduate program deepened my expertise in strategic communication, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement. I developed a strong foundation in managing organizational reputation, crafting responsive messaging during crises, and aligning public relations strategies with institutional values and goals.

Through coursework and real-world applications, I gained experience in media writing, campaign planning, and ethical communication. I also explored how to navigate complex public-facing challenges while maintaining trust, transparency, and cultural awareness—skills that are essential for today’s communication professionals.
