My name is Shelby Ortiz. I am married, have four beautiful daughters, and live in Arkansas. I work as a Registered Nurse in Long-term Acute Care and in-home Hospice.
Before I started nursing, I received a Biology Degree from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. After completing this degree, I knew I wanted a career that would allow me to help people in their time of need. I came across the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Nursing Program in Hope, Arkansas, and decided to pursue my nursing career. I graduated with my Bachelor in Science of Nursing in 2016.
As a Registered Nurse, I have experience in various areas of the field. I worked as an ICU nurse from 2016-2022. I worked as a travel ICU nurse for a year during the COVID-19 pandemic. I also worked as needed for a home hospice agency.
I am finishing the last semester of my BSN-DNP program at UAMS College of Nursing. Since becoming a registered nurse, I have dreamed of becoming a Nurse Practitioner close to home. I love caring for my patients.
After seeing such ill patients in the ICU setting, I would love to provide care to patients to help prevent hospitalization or ICU stays.
My hobbies include spending time with my family, singing with my church worship team, listening to music, and lifting weights.
My nursing philosophy is that nursing is not simply a career but a passion. Caring for others has had such a profound impact on my life and I strive to continue providing compassionate care to those in need.
I aim to complete my D.N.P. in May of 2025. I aim to become a compassionate Nurse Practitioner and provide patient-centered care to those in my rural community. I hope to utilize every opportunity to enrich the lives of my patients. I want to be practicing in my local community within 5 years.
