I am currently doing summer research at the College of Charleston with the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences regarding Mercury concentrations in rice grains with different preparation methods. I am also finishing up my research regarding Mercury concentrations in soil samples from around the state of South Carolina. Both of these projects are with the guidance of Dr.
Them. I have worked at my college's natural history museum for the past 3 years and I have truly fallen in love with research as well as curation, exhibit design, and public outreach and education. I have excelled in fossil and archaeological artifact preparation and handling. I have also excelled in my tour guide position at the museum, being the docent favored for school groups and educating younger patrons.
I have worked as a docent at the College of Charleston's Mace Brown Museum of Natural History for 3 years doing fossil preparation, leading tours, museum upkeep, public education, exhibit construction, as well as fossil identification. I have taken courses on museum work that have educated me in various collections management methods as well as the process of scientific fossil description and journal writing. I learned a lot about field experience during my field study with Dr.
Persons, including methods of molding and casting, field excavation and identification, and museum exhibit design. I have also worked as an intern with the Charleston Museum quite intensely for a month doing artifact preparation, cataloging, analysis, and digital archiving.
I have recently completed my B.S. in Geology and my B.A. in Archaeology. I am educated and certified in ArcGIS software.
