🔎 So, who am I? I'm Fabrizio Di Marco - born in Canada and raised in sunny Florida. I spent countless summers driving up to Montreal to spend time with my family, enjoying the beautiful weather and outdoors. I grew up as a total nerd - playing video games, collecting all sorts of trading cards, loving every superhero you put in front of me. The list goes on. I also love the outdoors. Fishing, shooting, archery, you name it I probably love it.
❤️🩹 The story of my circumstances growing up is a little more serious. When I was 10, I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I had an AICD implanted, and 3 years later an additional pacemaker implanted.
I was the first and only child in Florida with 2 pacemakers. I had a fairly normal childhood, but when I was 16, I had the toughest year of my life; 9 heart attacks in 12 months, and in each one of them my AICD saved my life. ⚕️After a grueling year my amazing doctor got the perfect medication combination, and I was doing better. Unfortunately, I would need to start consulting a transplant doctor, since my heart's condition was deteriorating faster than we would have liked.
Nonetheless, the amazing team of doctors at TGH in Tampa got on board. In 2017, at age 19, I was blessed with my second chance at life and had my heart transplant. ❤️
🔮 This brings me into what I aim to do in the future. I have always been fascinated by everything in the medical field. I would ask my doctors so many questions that they would eventually have to kick me out for staying too long. This, combined with my love for computers & programming (which came from my father who has been a programmer for over 40 years), makes me want to help develop cutting-edge devices like the AICD that saved my life.
