Sophia Mastandrea

Currently serving as a staff and athletic counselor at Bucknell University. Within a professional workspace, I provide a diligent work ethic, collaborative with co-workers, and maintain a level of curiosity and desire to learn how to support the person as well as the athlete. I am looking to grow my skillset as a clinician, work within a collaborative team, and continue to support individuals in an athletic environment.

Staff & Athletic Counselor at Bucknell University (2024-06 – Present)

• Conduct assessments and crisis interventions for student population.
• Manage a diverse caseload of athletes and students.
• Create outreach programs with Bucknell's student athletes, teams, and coaches. Manage mental health screenings for the athletics teams and founded the injured athlete support group.
• Attend HEART meetings- an organization made up of student health, athletic trainers, and mental health counselors to work together as a treatment team for students with eating disorder and disordered eating habits.
• Create and run Injured Athlete Support Group

Counseling Intern at Stockton University CAPS (2023-01 – 2024-12)

• Conduct intake assessments and routine counseling sessions with students.
• Facilitate Mind Gym, a mental health group session for student-athletes.
• In contact with the athletic director, create, and conduct group sessions with various athletic teams.
• Co-facilitate a trauma group open to students.

Drug and Alcohol Recovery Intern at Mental Health Association GRIT (2023-06 – 2023-08)

Population: individuals in substance use recovery who also identify as LGBTQIA+.

• Create and run group sessions with residents and fellow staff.
• Facilitate two groups and create weekly session plans: Trauma Informed Yoga Group and Gender & Sexuality Group
• Shadow counselors during check-ins and treatment team meetings with residents.

Grief Group Counselor at Rick's Place (2022-01 – 2023-12)

• Lead group discussions with children from Pre-K – 12th grade regarding the death of a loved one.
• Create activities to conduct with the group.

Center for Enhanced Performance Intern at West Point Academy (2022-09 – 2022-12)

• Manage the kinesthetic lab.
• Assist cadets and athletes with alleviating stress and anxiety and work to improve upon performance skills.
