As part of an agreement with the Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota, mentor movement disorder fellows throughout their entire two-year fellowship training, providing them with consistent, hands-on instruction in the use of botulinum neurotoxin injections. Teaching focuses specifically on the technical aspects of injecting botulinum neurotoxin to treat different types of dystonias, including cervical, facial, oromandibular, and focal limb dystonias. Work closely with the fellows to develop their skills in identifying the appropriate muscles to target and mastering the injection techniques necessary for effective and safe treatment.
This includes guidance on dosing, dilution, needle placement, and injection patterns tailored to each type of dystonia. Emphasize practical experience, supervising injections and offering real-time feedback to help the fellows refine their technique and build confidence. Throughout the two-year fellowship, ensure that the fellows gain comprehensive, hands-on experience with botulinum neurotoxin therapy, preparing them to independently perform these injections with precision and care once they complete their training.
