My name is Dr. Summer Heard. I am a 1999 graduate of Oxford High school, a 2003 graduate of The University of Alabama, and a 2007 graduate from Auburn University. I am married and have two children, one of which was born with unilateral Microtia and atresia, thus a unilateral conductive hearing loss.
When I tell people my story of having the last name Heard, having a hearing impaired son, and working as an audiologist…they think, “Oh, so that is why you do this.” The truth is I was not even dating my husband when I started thecAuD program and my son was born 6 weeks before graduating with my AuD. PErwin ally, I DO 100% feel that helping people hear better is what I was “called” to do. I have years experience both personally and professionally.
Basically, I am managing hearing loss and communication difficulties ALL waking hours….and I throughly LOVE it!
My professional experiences have varied greatly over the last 17-20 years. I have worked in the clinical setting. I have worked with both pediatrics, adults, and geriatric patients; however, 80% of my career has consisted primarily of the diagnosing, managing, and treating adults With hearing difficulties.
2007 Graduate of a dual AuD program (Auburn University Montgomery & Auburn University)
2003 Graduate of University of Alabama with an undergraduate in Communication Disorders.
