DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING at MAP DIGITAL — MetaMeetings (2015-06 – 2026-09)
Hands-on technical leader for an enterprise SaaS platform supporting large-scale financial, pharmaceutical, and executive events.
- Technical leadership: Partnered with product and engineering teams to shape architecture, break down complex initiatives, prioritize technical work, and maintain delivery and code-quality standards.
- Enterprise backend engineering: Designed and developed Ruby on Rails services, APIs, database workflows, and background jobs using MySQL, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes for event data, scheduling, registration, content, and webcast workflows.
- Resolved performance issues across API latency, schedule generation, registration workflows, and AWS infrastructure, enhancing reliability during high-traffic events.
- Led development of real-time registration updates and server-sent events, ensuring connection management and reliability across multiple application pods.
- Attendee data architecture: Refactored event-specific attendee data from a large badge-field-value model into UserEventProfile, creating a cleaner foundation for attendee filtering, reporting, API queries, and event-specific profile data.
- Registration Desk: Designed and shipped major registration workflows including attendee search/filtering, checkbox selection, column visibility/pinning/sorting, add/edit attendee flows, print-with-options workflows, and supporting APIs for live event operations.
- Modernized attachment handling by migrating nearly all models to ActiveStorage, implementing S3 key reconstruction, ClamAV virus scanning, and production data-migration tasks across 40+ commits.
