Tobias Efler

Hi,

My name is Tobias Efler, and I’m a video editor with over 13 years of experience in the German TV industry, now based in New Orleans. I’ve worked across a wide range of formats—from documentaries to prime-time game and quiz shows—and was also responsible for cutting trailers for each episode.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked very independently, taking full ownership of the post-production process from initial storytelling decisions through final delivery. This includes shaping narrative structure, developing music and audio concepts, performing color grading, and finalizing edits to broadcast standards. I’m accustomed to making creative and technical decisions on my own while keeping the overall vision and pacing of a project in mind.

Avid Media Composer has been my main editing tool throughout my career, where I’ve built deep experience handling complex timelines and long-form content. I also have some experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, which I’m comfortable using for a variety of editing tasks. I also work confidently with Adobe Photoshop and After Effects to create graphics and motion elements such as lower thirds and simple animations.

I hold a degree in media technologies, which gives me a strong technical foundation and makes it easy for me to adapt to different workflows and delivery requirements.

01/2012- 12/2015 Post Production Assistant

Working on a variety of German television shows as an assistant editor. Involved in ingesting and syncing of footage, color corrections of full episodes, export-workflows and creating rough cuts.

03/2016 - 09/2021 Video Editor

Edited hundreds of episodes across the German TV market, covering formats from documentaries and reality TV to prime-time game shows. Managed projects ranging from simple multi-camera shoots to high-end studio productions and documentaries with up to 35 cameras. Developed storylines, crafted engaging edits, and designed music concepts independently, while also collaborating closely with other creatives to bring complex productions to life.

Freelance video editor for a wide range of companies in Germany and, since relocating to the U.S., for American clients. Continues to work remotely on major productions in Germany. Experienced in adapting to diverse formats and production styles while delivering high-quality edits and creative storytelling across international projects.
