Immediately after graduating college, I had the privilege of fulfilling many roles at Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, NC. First, I served as an admissions advisor and recruiter. I was responsible for representing the University and cultivating positive working relationships with high school guidance counselors in target areas.
Later, I performed double duty of data entry and program coordinator. While serving as program coordinator I successfully managed the Fall Open House, Spring Open House and Scholar's Day Programs. All of which received positive reviews from prospective students and their parents and fellow colleagues.
Finally, I served as Financial Aid Counselor.
My duties included: managing Federal Work Study Funds, creating a streamlined Satisfactory Academic Progress program, counseling students on financial literacy, creating outreach programs for prospective students, such as FAFSA Assistance Day, and improving office and current student rapport, along with awarding scholarships and federal aid to students, and performing accurate verification on flagged FAFSA applications, secured a contract with Financial Aid TV, a virtual advising program for current and prospective students. The program is still in use today. Getting married closed my WSSU chapter and opened my Charlotte, NC chapter.
Here, I am exploring my artistic abilities in freelance makeup for weddings, photographers, special events. My makeup application and customer relation skills have been sharpened by my employment at BareMinerals. With my diverse employment history, one common theme is clear.
I thrive when serving people in various capacities and when I can leave a situation in better condition than how it was found. Regarding my technical skills, I am proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs. I also have had to become effective at using Zoom, WebEx and other video conference platforms.
I am more than willing to learn something new. Evidenced by my learning to read and write Arabic. Currently I have accepted the challenge of recruiting for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry.
