As part of the Engine 311 Crew our primary job in the forest was initial attack. When we weren't doing that our time was spent training such as mock hose lays, medical scenarios, building hose packs, and various duties assigned throughout the fire station that needed done. When we were assigned to large campaign fires our job could be backhaul, mop up, patrolling, and plumbing fireline.
Snow Removal - Snow Shoveler at Powder Mountain (2024-11 – 2026-03)
As a snow shoveler our main job was to go around to all the lodges and private houses and make them accessible throughout the winter as the name entails shoveling snow. Operating heavy snow blowers and driving big trucks on icy roads was also common. I loved this job and was really glad I went and did it for the winter. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Squad 2-1 Seasonal/Permanent (Hand crew) at Fishlake National Forest (2022-05 – 2024-11)

Additionally, I was trained to construct a Fireline with tools like a pulaski, mcleod, axe, and power saws to limit the spread of fire. Furthermore, I was required to rehab, clean, and store these tools for future use. Mopping up by finding and extinguishing parts of the fire that persist to burn is also a common task. As well I handled equipment suited for fire suppression like a portable pump.
Finally, ignition with a drip torch was performed.
