Respond to emergent and non-emergent 911 calls to assess and treat patients, and safely transport them to medical facilities while coordinating with other emergency services.
- Arrive quickly and safely at the scene of emergencies such as accidents, medical crises, or natural disasters. Manage the scene to protect both patients and responders.
- Check vital signs, level of consciousness, visible injuries, and other indicators to determine the appropriate level of care. Administer basic life support, including CPR, airway management, bleeding control, wound care, and use of defibrillators. Immobilize suspected spinal injuries, manage shock, and treat life-threatening conditions.
- Operate the ambulance to deliver patients to the nearest appropriate medical facility while monitoring their condition en route. Adjust treatments during transit as needed, based on patient status and en route observations.
- Work with police, fire, and other EMS personnel to manage the scene and patient care. Assist in mass casualty incidents by perform triage, manage patient flow, and coordinate with incident commanders.
- Relay patient condition, treatments given, and relevant medical history to emergency department staff. Record response times, patient condition, interventions, and outcomes in electronic or paper systems.
- Restock medical supplies, check equipment, and perform vehicle safety inspections after each call.
