Experience
System Architect | Project Leader | Senior Software Engineer at VITAL CHECK (2017-01 – Present)
Healthcare Technology Startup.
Core Technologies: Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, MongoDB, SQL, AWS, React, JavaScript, OpenAI API
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Technical owner and go-to engineer across critical platforms, driving architectural decisions and hands-on implementation while mentoring & onboarding engineers.
- Constraint-Aware Scheduling & Booking Platform: Created a scalable booking platform and REST APIs supporting complex multi-provider, multi-location scheduling constraints across 800+ organizations and tens of thousands of patients.
- Elastic Scheduling Engine: Introduced a dynamic scheduling mechanism that adapts time-slot availability to reduce schedule fragmentation, increasing patient bookings by 50%.
- Patient Identity Resolution: Designed and implemented a secure, password-free identity-resolution system that accurately recognizes returning patients despite changing or shared names, emails, and phone numbers, while preventing false matches and medical-data exposure.
- Clinic Bulk Operations: Designed and implemented infrastructure for efficiently managing complex updates across large numbers of clinics, reducing critical administrative workflows from multiple hours to just a few minutes and significantly improving operational efficiency.
- High-Availability Messaging Infrastructure: Engineered resilient email/SMS delivery with real-time failure detection, delivery tracking, and automated recovery using AWS SES and Twilio.
- AI-Assisted Production Troubleshooting: Built an LLM-based system integrating application logs and GitHub source code to identify root causes, assess impact, and recommend remediation.
- Authorization & Access-Control Architecture: Designed and implemented a centralized authorization framework across Vital Check's services, governing data visibility and operations based on roles, credentials, and resource relationships, e.g., limiting providers to their patients' medical data.
- Mobile App Leadership: Led architecture and development of Vital Check's mobile app while contributing hands-on to core features; achieved 4.8/5 on the App Store and 4.5/5 on Google Play.
- Provider Compensation & Reconciliation Platform: Architected and developed a configurable rules engine that calculates provider compensation based on patient encounters, clinical deliverables, and contract-specific agreements, automating payment workflows while ensuring transparency, auditability, and operational accuracy.
- Operations Platforms: Designed and built critical platforms for provider onboarding, clinic assignment and activity monitoring.
Member of Technical Staff | Research Scientist - Distributed Systems, Networking & Algorithms at NOKIA BELL LABS (Alcatel-Lucent) (2000-01 – 2017-01)
36 U.S. Patents | 25 International Patents (EP, JP, KR, CN) | 65 Peer-Reviewed Publications
- DyMo (Dynamic Monitoring of Large Wireless Systems): Initiated, assembled and led a cross-organizational team of ~10 scientists and engineers from Nokia and Columbia Univ. that developed a low-overhead multicast monitoring framework for large LTE-eMBMS networks, achieving scalable monitoring with only 5 feedback msg/sec across thousands of users (IEEE INFOCOM 2017 Runner-up for the Best Paper Award, European Broadcasting Union meeting 2017).
- AMuSe (Adaptive Multicast Services for WiFi Networks): Initiated a Bell Labs–Columbia University research collaboration and architected a WiFi video distribution system for crowded venues, validating live video delivery across 200 WiFi nodes on the Rutgers ORBIT testbed (NYC Media Lab Summit 2nd Prize; IEEE ICCCN 2016 Invited Paper).
- OASIS (Overlay-Assisted Services for Infrastructure Systems): Initiated and led a joint Bell Labs–Nokia Wireless project, bringing together experts across organizations to develop multi-interface LTE/WiFi management schemes that reduced network overhead and improved service quality (Alcatel-Lucent Boot Camp Finalist 2010 – 6 of 130 proposals selected).
- Redundant Multicast Trees (Fault-Resilient Routing): Designed dynamic protection schemes for unicast and multicast connections, automatically mitigating link and node failures while minimizing recovery bandwidth (IEEE HPSR 2013 Best Paper Award).
- PANDA (Power-Aware Network Design and Auto-Configuration): Formulated energy-efficient IP network topology algorithms that dynamically configure active network components based on traffic demand (IEEE HPSR 2012 Outstanding Paper Award).
- NetInventory: Created network topology-discovery algorithms for heterogeneous Ethernet networks using sparse connectivity data (Bell Labs President's Gold Award).
- CEDAT (Concept Evaluation, Demonstration and Analysis Tool): Built a cloud-based web application using Python, Java EE, AWS EC2, MySQL, and Google Visualization API for large-scale network evaluation, telemetry processing, dynamic reporting, and interactive visualization.
