Job Summary

Our client is seeking a skilled Java Developer to design, build and maintain scalable backend systems that support business-critical platforms. The successful candidate will work in an agile, collaborative environment and take ownership of delivering secure, reliable and maintainable technology solutions. The role requires strong hands-on experience in Java 18+, Spring Boot, Azure and modern software engineering practices. You will work closely with engineers, QA and product teams to deliver high-quality backend services and contribute to ongoing technical improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and optimise backend applications using Java 18+, Spring Boot and related frameworks.
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and backend services using domain-driven design and clean architecture principles.
• Build and support microservices and asynchronous processing solutions.
• Deploy, monitor and manage applications on Microsoft Azure, including Azure Kubernetes Service and Microsoft SQL.
• Create and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines covering build, test and release workflows.
• Collaborate with engineering, QA and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and produce clear technical documentation.
• Monitor application performance and reliability, implementing observability and proactive improvements.
• Apply secure coding practices and API authentication standards, including OAuth2 and OpenID Connect.
• Keep current with Azure and software engineering developments to improve scalability and maintainability.

Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Java 18+ and Spring Boot is mandatory.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services is mandatory.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, domain-driven design and clean architecture principles is mandatory.
• Experience building microservices and asynchronous processing solutions is mandatory.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Kubernetes Service and Microsoft SQL, is mandatory.
• Experience using Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD pipelines for builds, testing and deployments is mandatory.
• Working knowledge of SQL, database development and performance considerations is mandatory.
• Experience using Docker containers and modern deployment strategies is mandatory.
• Strong understanding of secure coding practices and API authentication using OAuth2 and OpenID Connect is mandatory.
• Experience monitoring application performance, reliability and observability is mandatory.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and technical documentation skills are mandatory.
• Experience with Terraform, Bicep or other infrastructure-as-code tools is preferred.
• Exposure to event-driven architecture, message-based systems and test automation frameworks is preferred.
• Banking, financial services, legal technology or other large enterprise experience is preferred.
